Introduction

As a wearer in the Masterworks Broach of the Month Club 2010, Jo Mears and partner/BOM maker Sharon felt obliged to take Ross Malcolm's brooch 'In the Pink' on tour with them as they set out on a three week adventure with sixty other kombis around the South Island of New Zealand to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Volkswagen Type II in New Zealand.

Photo shoot at Rakaia Gorge and a nice line of Kombis to Geraldine

Day Nine: Christchurch to Orari and a nice BBQ dinner thanks to the South Central VW club. Forcast to be 2 degrees tonight. Lucky we bought an extra duvet this morning and 3 silver window shade thingies at the warehouse.
Enjoyed a leisurely drive through the Canterbury plains this morning, taking a long cut through some country lanes.  Fascinated by their irrigation systems that span several hundred meters and can be driven around the farm.
Stopped at Rakaia Gorge for lunch and a photo shoot
I am trying to start a new fashion trend, wearing shorts over my longjohns
Interesting roof accessories

Drove in a long line of kombis from Rakaia to Geraldine. It was a lot less stressful than on Monday with all those speedy holiday travellers.  Not many people on the roads today. Got lots of waves from passing cars and impressed the shop keepers in Geraldine.  Found a singing toilet and a really good shop where we bought cat and dog mascots. Ivan blew up his motor today. Luckily he lives in Chch so will go back and get one of his beetles to continue the trip in.
Staying at a campground called the Farmyard with sheeps and windmills
